Swiss professional education system
The path to a particular profession can look quite different in Switzerland than it does in your country of origin. For example, attending a college preparatory school and a university is only necessary for a small percentage of professions here. Most Swiss young people learn their profession, after the compulsory schooling period, in basic professional training: For three to four years they complete their training in a company or at a plant (practice) and simultaneously attend school for one to two days a week as well (theory). There are over 250 professions in Switzerland that can be learned after compulsory schooling. In addition to basic professional training there are other options for continuing education.
